  • Can’t connect to Xbox

    I think this is the first review I’ve made. I’m about to cancel my subscription after only having it for 3 days because for all three days, I have yet been able to watch a show. I’ve been trying to connect it to my Xbox. I’ll start with the code. Then I’ll try to put in my username and password but it says it’s incorrect. I ask them to email me because i ‘forgot’ mine and get no email. I’ll try changing my password on the app and still no luck. Then I get ‘you’ve tried too many times, wait 60 minutes’. I’ll try later, no luck.. so I gave up. I use one email, I have limited variations of passwords I use, so I’m not sure why nothing worked.
  • Uodates are supposed to be an improvement

    Since the update all the shows and movies are low res and need to buffer every five minutes. My internet provider recently upgraded the speed which has caused YouTube to play in wonderful high res with no intermittent buffering. So I’m as confident as I can be that the issue lies in the app and not my internet connection. Update: tried watching Real Time this morning and it had to load every 30 seconds or so. This was getting annoying, so I tried it in chrome on my laptop, it’s playing at high res and has no loading time. I think this is how streaming should work.
  • $15 and useless...DON’T BUY! SAVE YOUR MONEY!

    Just renewed my HBO now subscription to catch up on a few shows, the playback is so terrible it freezes and buffers every 30 seconds, it’s incredibly annoying and unwatchable. I am using a PS4 to stream. I just checked my internet speed and it is 20mbps, 15 above their bare minimum to stream. Hulu works great, Netflix works great, amazon prime works great, HBO does not. After doing some research regarding this problem it seems pretty consistent across the board, the only way people have solved it is connecting hbo through amazon prime and watching it on there instead. Unfortunately I used my work email for my hbo account so I can’t connect it to amazon unless I fork out another $15. Unfortunately that is over budget for a USELESS app at this point. I really would love a refund from HBO as their service is UNUSABLE, but it doesn’t look promising that that will happen. Unfortunately just have to cut my losses and cancel the subscription, $15 down the drain. I wish there was another option as HBO is the only place I can watch a few shows I want to, but their service is a joke. Step it up HBO, you’ve certainly stepped up the price.... final recommendation DO NOT PURCHASE HBO NOW!

    By itself it is frustrating enough but even worse with the chromecast! I have to close and reopen the app every single time i want to do anything! Pause, play, etc. most of the time it still doesn’t respond. and it is an entire ordeal just to try to find the next episode. You can do better HBO.
  • A decent app with an okay library, but navigation can be annoying...

    HBO Now’s free month trial was what initially won me over; I wanted to see the Andre the Giant documentary, and HBO Now proved to be a godsend in achieving that goal, especially since I’m not a regular HBO subscriber. HBO has been knocking it out of the park with their original documentaries here lately. The Robin Williams documentary they have coming up is also on my radar, and will likely result in me continuing my subscription at least until that releases. The overall library they provide is alright, in my opinion. Like I said, their recent documentary projects persuaded me to give this a try, and I’m not disappointed in taking the leap. Unfortunately, the rest of their library hasn’t been very interesting to me. I don’t mean that to say what they have is bad; I mean, they have shows like Game Of Thrones, after all. I just didn’t see a lot of things that would compel me to use the app regularly. I think what would really captivate me to stick around would be if they made George Carlin’s HBO specials available to stream...I’m honestly shocked they were absent. I loved watching them all when they were on Netflix. I hope they return somewhere. My only other criticisms concern navigation. Getting HBO Now up and running on my PS4 was a bit tricky, what with having to sign up via the phone app and then jump through a hoop or two to get it running via the PS4 version of the app. Once you figure it out, it’s straightforward, but I wish the process was simpler. I also had to dig around to find how to turn off auto-renew; for me, it was buried in my iTunes / Apple ID settings. I wish you could handle that via the app or website itself. Otherwise, HBO Now — as it currently is — is an enjoyable app. I’d still say Hulu and Netflix are better overall, but if you’re looking for HBO-exclusive content as someone without a normal HBO subscription, this is the app for you.
  • Great but needs a few changes

    Can you make the background of the player black? I have an OLED screen to make the extra space disappear. Having a non-black background is a little annoying. Otherwise, nice work!
  • Freezing and stuttering Now

    For $15 a month this service is atrocious. Freezing and stuttering on PC and on Chromecast via iPhone. Nothing wrong with WiFi. Netflix and other streaming services work great. Never HBO.
  • Seamless Integration

    I have my HBO subscription through Hulu (and the Hulu app suuuucks) and after figuring out that I needed to use HBO Now not HBO Go I am very happy with this app. Syncs perfectly between my phone, tv/chrome cast and laptop without glitching, especially when compared to other streaming apps. Video quality is always good with minimal buffering and pauses. I love the interface. Easy to navigat with descriptions as well as extras like episode recaps and commentary.
