Classroom is a free service for schools, non-profits, and anyone with a personal Google account. Classroom makes it easy for learners and instructors to connect—inside and outside of schools. Classroom saves time and paper, and makes it easy to create classes, distribute assignments, communicate, and stay organized. Classroom is designed to help teachers create, collect, and grade assignments paperlessly, including time-saving features like the ability to automatically make a copy of a Google Document for each student. It also creates Drive folders for each assignment and for each student to help keep everyone organized. Students can keep track of what’s due on the Assignments page and begin working with just a click. Teachers can quickly see who has or hasn't completed the work, and provide direct, real-time feedback and grades right in Classroom. With the mobile app for iOS, students and teachers can view their classes and communicate with their classmates in real time. Students can open their assignments and work on them right from their iPhone or iPad. Teachers can keep track of who has turned in work and grade the assignment - at school or on the go. Students and teachers receive notifications when they have new content in Classroom, so they are always up to date. There are many benefits of using Classroom: Easy to set up Teachers can add students directly or share a code with their class to join. It takes just minutes to set up. Saves time The simple, paperless assignment workflow allows teachers to create, review, and grade assignments quickly, all in one place. Improves organization Students can see all of their assignments on an assignments page, and all class materials (e.g., documents, photos, and videos) are automatically filed into folders in Google Drive. Enhances communication Classroom allows teachers to send announcements and start class discussions instantly. Students can share resources with each other or provide answers to questions on the stream. Affordable and secure Like the rest of G Suite for Education services, Classroom contains no ads, never uses your content or student data for advertising purposes, and is free. Permissions Notice: Camera: Needed to allow the user to take photos or videos and post them to Classroom. Microphone: Needed to enable audio capture for recording videos to be posted to Classroom. Photos: Needed to allow the user to attach photos or videos to Classroom. Photos or videos posted to Classroom will be stored on Google servers in order to show them in Classroom.

Google Classroom has come a long way in the past few months with all the useful updates. I had many image-heavy assignments that became easier to manage after optimizations with things like zooming in. Also, if you add files to an assignment and close the app, they’ll still be there when you go to turn them in. They’ll also be there if you add them from a browser. Very handy for working between home and school. Under each assignment, you’re given a choice of making a new Google Doc, which is very convenient. Even after you turn something in, you can still edit what files the teacher will eventually get. Cheating is reduced by automatically making the teacher the file owner after clicking “Turn In” (no last-minute editing to documents), and with text indicating if it is complete and on time. With Classroom, it’s the little things that make it awesome. If you’re a teacher, I highly recommend this. Classroom makes it easy for students to turn in their projects without dealing with lost emails or size limits. Grading is also less of a pain, since you can arrange each student’s work in a grid. These can then be flipped through, with options for zooming in. Out of all the sites my teachers have made us use for turning in anything, this is by far the easiest. *Suggestion*: report buttons for comments. There are seemingly no automatic filters for class comments on assignments, meaning students (more often than not) post whatever they want. The teachers can block comments altogether, but when they don’t it’s a free-for-all. Although this won’t solve everything, this can help alert the teacher to any inappropriate comments without spoiling it for everyone else. Also, as far as I recall Classroom lacks dedicated features for group projects... Kind of a big deal since some classes have a lot of them.
  • Great homeschool tool

This is so helpful with homeschooling especially for more than one child. This has changed the way that we homeschool! I’m able to plan the week in advance and set scheduled post dates for my kids. This allows us to be 90% paper free (: which is great!! I love that I can attach documents and YouTube videos to the posts. I haven’t found anything like this before and I’ve been searching for a while for something along these lines! Great product!

I really like this app but sometimes on my phone I’ll get a notification that someone commented on an assignment but then when I go to the comments section there’s nothing there. This is really annoying please fix it.

I can no longer send items to Classroom from Safari or from Photos. The choice is there under the share button, but there is no send button!
  • Google Classroom NEEDS cheating feature!

Google Classroom is an awesome app. But as a teacher, I’ve noticed it makes it easier for students to share, and copy and paste each other’s work. Would be great if teachers got an alert when work has been copied or has similarities. Please make it happen Google!
