  • I love my Home device but the app needs improvements

I love my Google Home device. I’m a big Google supporter and that’s the reason I purchased it over its Amazon counterpart. That said, I don’t appreciate the limitations they’ve placed on the iOS version of their Google Home app. For instance, my partner has an Android and can cast any music, podcasts, audiobooks or videos that support casting to our Google assistant speaker devices or Chromecasts with the Google Home [Android] app. When I told my “IT expert” partner that my Home app didn’t have a cast button/link like his does, he didn’t believe it could be true and searched everywhere for it. Turns out the iOS app doesn’t have that option. Even once you find the music page in the app which allows you to play select music on a Google assistant device through the Home app, your choices are limited and they’ve made it so that there’s no way for you to play your music (if you’re an iPhone user that’s in your Apple Music library) or your podcasts (from the native Podcast app on iPhone) to any of your Google Home devices. I would expect that from maybe Apple but with Google, I think of them as a company that would care more about their users than about blacklisting their competitors’ services from being compatible with their speaker devices. Especially since much of the country had already had their music/podcasts on these services long before Google Home devices even existed. This is just one of many features on their Android version of the app that I don’t have because I have their iOS version of the app, which makes it feel as if they’re punishing their iPhone-owning users. Please fix the discrepancies, Google. You’re so much better than this as a company and I’d like to keep supporting your devices, but yet not be so limited with my what I can do with/what I can play in my devices at the same time.

App has a long way to improve. Cameras don’t work and light switches doesn’t show if the light is on or off from the home page.
  • Connects, then it doesn’t.

Occasionally when I ask it to play a station from Pandora it says it will play, but then there is silence.

    It’s working fantastic !!
  • Wish it showed what’s on

I love my google products, but wish the app showed which lights or devices were on vs off. Even as simple as highlighting the word “on” would be an improvement so I can see at a glance what’s actually on (especially if not at home).
  • Impossible to set up chrome cast

    By Annnnnngela
No matter what I do it says no device found. I’m staring at a tv showing the welcome screen (“to get started, download the app!”) that has the device name listed on the bottom left. When going to google home and then add new device, it says no device found over and over. Only option is to hit retry or read articles telling you to go the app and add a new device. Cycle starts over... So this chromecast is a brick and the app is useless to resolve anything.
