I recently completed the Colorado Trail using Guthook as my primary navigation aid. Previously I had used it for over 800 mlles on the PCT and also on the Ouachita Trail. This app comes as close to being a perfect hiking tool as one could imagine. It has all the features you need and none of the extraneous junk you don’t. I used it every day. The public comments on the CT are the primary source of water information and every hiker I met counted on them. Great jobs guys!
  • I wouldn’t hike the AT without it

What an excellent resource! I discovered it when talking to a through hiker on my last trek on the Appalachian Trail. It was a lifesaver for me. You can easily see how many miles more to go to your destination, details about upcoming sites, some facts about nearby towns, many more things. I wish I would’ve had this app year’s ago!

Seems to crash when looking at waypoints and water spots

This is a brilliant app, but there are a few annoying bugs. Saved routes that are deleted randomly come back and never stay deleted. As a planner and a section hiker after I complete a saved route not being able to delete is a bit of a pain. Otherwise really great app and being able to see other hikers comments about a location or spring is exceedingly helpful. Definitely worth the purchase, but wish the deleting routes issue would be resolved. Only reason for not 5 stars honestly.
  • A must-have for the CT!

Bought this app 100 miles into the CT and it was the best decision. With such a dry summer, water sources were not as reliable as initially expected, and this app was so incredibly helpful to figure out what water conditions were like. Loved having user comments that gave tidbits of info about water, campsites, and fun things to see on trail.
  • A great way to track family’s progress on hiking itinerary!

I just wish I had a way to convert coordinates from satellite phone updates of hikers to the actual waypoints.
  • Well worth it!

I used this app to download Eagle rock loop trail system. It did not disappoint and continuously kept us on track. At the end of the three day hike it was a running joke that we trust Gut Hook more than we do the physical map.
  • Awful. App won’t load.

Terrible. Every time I open the app, it goes to an initial screen where it says “downloading” but never moves past that. Useless app unless this is resolved.
  • Best hiking app out there

Not sure what more you could ask for. Love the ability to create a custom hike, and always knowing what’s along the way (water, etc.). Highly recommended.
  • How to tell which maps to get?

It looks like this app has the potential to be very useful, but descriptions like “includes three AMC huts and six peaks“ does not tell me if it will include the peaks I will be on or the huts On my route. Inside the app the maps need better descriptions so we know which ones to spend money on before committing to a purchase. It really shouldn’t be that hard to add about six more lines of specific peak name and trail names in the base app.
