The new version with banner ads has rendered this app unusable on the iPhone. Every time I scroll down to read more the text bounces around and I land on a different paragraph. This happens every time a banner ad appears or goes away.

Terrible experience with the app the past three days. Cannot download paper - only get a white screen. The Courier Journal's tech support is equally lousy since they were unable to fix the problem.

This app is a pain to use. Apple should not allow poorly designed apps like this in the store.

This app is always a struggle to use. It truly is one of the worst I've ever had. All of the TV station apps are a breeze. Come on CJ, it's 2016. This does require new or special technology! Surely Gannett can do better.
  • App still won't work

Tried old app last year. It refused to recognize my password, ever, even after changing. Tried new app, get nothing but error message that it failed to download. Extra charge for digital version is a total rip-off.
  • Poor App, Worse Customer Service

My subscription to the C-J is purchased and billed through iTunes. It is an active subscription, but I cannot access the epaper. Each time I access it, the app returns a message "Cannot find ePaper." Although my subscription is current through Jan. 10th according to iTunes, the C-J lists it as inactive. I emailed C-J Customer Service as the app instructs five days ago outlining the problem. Still no response. $9.99 monthly for nothing? I don't think so. Save yourself some money and some irritation - skip the C-J and their app.
  • Not a good update

I use this app on an iPad mini and it is terrible after the update! It was frustrating to use before the update, but it is awful now. The only way to zoom in now is with finger gestures - if you touch the page, it goes to a split screen and doesn't zoom the whole page like it used to. It used to download the whole paper automatically to read offline - and I found out the hard way that it is no longer the case. The app may be free but I pay for the subscription, and it doesn't do me any good when I am traveling now.

Well done, C-J! As a decades long subscriber to the print edition, I am pleased with the overall quality of the app. I particularly like having the ability to view an entire printed page verbatim on my iPad, then touch to read it in "Article Mode"on the bottom like a "folded half". The overall quality of it's content and it's design elements are excellent. Is there room for improvement; of course, but this initial attempt seems worthy and encouraging too me. BTW. People having difficulty logging on should contact the C-J's customer service department for assistance, and not not rate the app poorly if they haven't even had an opportunity to login and check it out yet.

The Courier Journal is one of the best publications in the country. This app is great if you're a subscriber, and want the look and feel of having the print edition without having to worry about ink smudges and actual paper to toss or recycle. I highly recommend it. Well worth the cost!!
