  • All Right...If You Only Like Playing “Greensleeves”

    By Joe Blow 07
I thought this might be a worthwhile app but it’s way, way, way too ad-choked and too devoted to in-app premium purchases to get a fair idea of how the app overall works. First off: the ad bar inside the guitar window itself is disruptive so I can’t get a fair idea of how to truly play it because I kept accidentally hitting the ad not the string. You can only play “Greensleeves” or some song called “Caravan” which is supposedly a standard but I had never even heard of it and didn’t recognize the (pretty ugly) time. Everything else (which appear to all be public domain pieces already) you have to pay premium prices for. Other sections seem to constantly hit fresh ad windows that I have to sit through. I’m all for commodifying your app and getting paid for your efforts, but this just kept choking my attempts to get a real idea of what it can do. I’m not going to pay anything for an app that barely lets me play anything more than one song to get an idea of the variety it’s capable of or has ad placement where I can’t even comfortably play the thing. It’s also rather buggy in that, when I played “Greensleeves” about five times in a row and hit the “restart” button, the “play” animation would run...and then the three blue buttons just came back up; I had to shut down the app just to be able to play it again. I repeat: not going to pay a dime if this is the annoying, overly-restricted demo that doesn’t even appear to reliably work in its limited capacity. I hate to think what other bugs and limited feature issues I’d have if I bought anything less than the total highest-priced package they push for this thing. There are better beginner apps if you have an interest in guitar and learning basic cords. This app isn’t going to instruct you in much of anything except following the little colored dots like a Guitar Hero button-punching monkey.
