  • Version 7 is a great redesign but does not limit episodes

This looks great and works great One question: you seem to have hidden the episode limit for each podcast. So I have 20 copies of my hourly news podcast. Other than that, 5stars. Without limiting episodes it gets 1 because it useless. Additionally, there seems to be no way to take an entire “filter” and send all the files to the “playing now” list. The design seems to only allow adding one podcast at a time, and not groups, to the now playing. Granted, I can set a podcast to download and be added, but that just fills up my list. I would like a different list for the gym and for driving, for example and there seems to be no quick way to create and populate those two lists. Therefore, 1 star
  • New episodes just don’t arrive

I get push notifications for new episodes on time but they take hours, sometimes days, to actually show up so I can play them. Makes me wonder what exactly I paid for if I can’t listen to a new release.

I’ve used PocketCast for 4-5 years over hundreds if not thousands of hours of podcasts. It was easily the best in class for much of this time. However, over the last year or so I’ve noticed that it has become increasingly difficult to navigate. The various commands are spread all over the place. Some are accessed at the top of the screen; others at the bottom. Some of them, even those frequently used, are hidden or require a swipe. The last straw for me was that despite spending 20-30 minutes tapping through all the settings to try and make it where a played podcast didn’t automatically go to the bottom of the list into a “played” category. All of this is a shame, because it’s a clean looking app with a lot of great features. Unfortunately though, it seems like more and more apps are getting caught up in an arms race of adding features while neglecting to keep and elegant and intuitive interface, and PocketCast now falls into that category. I’ll keep it on my phone and keep tabs on how the developers update it, but for now I have found another app that keeps all the key commands I care about (share, favorite/star, etc) easy to see and assessable.
  • The archive feature is bad.

It’s clunky and worse than “played” in previous versions. Also swiping from the left has to be done on the top half of the screen now to go back. Been using this app for years and this new update has me considering abandoning it.
  • New update is terrible

Still haven’t fixed badge icon counting unplayed episodes. I have maybe 500 unplayed episodes yet the badge on the icon says 2,000+

Not happy with this app ever since NPR took over. They’ve removed significant features that made this podcast stand head and shoulders above the rest. Bring back “keep latest x podcast” it’s completely gone. The “new and improved” keep the last two weeks of episodes is NOT the same guys.
  • Latest Upgrade A Backwards Step

I can’t understand why app developers remove useful features on a major update. I’m the type to always keep my orientation locked but of course when I watch a video, I want to watch it in landscape mode - like many other people. I was able to do that prior to the latest major update with just a switch in orientation when watching a video podcast. Now, the orientation is locked on videos even if you turn your device. SOLUTION: Either give back the feature to override device orientation or add a button on the video player to manually do it. Simple as that.

How is this app still #2 after its monthslong freefall? Rating is now in line with other NPR apps. The latest update is awful; clunky and bloated. No longer a power user app. Completely dumbed down for the masses, which was their goal. It seems too many people were confused by Auto Clean-up so they removed it. Developer is snarky when they reply. I've moved on from what was once my most used app. Joe might be a nerd but his podcatcher (icatcher!) app is first rate.
  • Disappearing podcasts

After the last update the app now unsubscribes me from the last podcast I’m listening to. I use an iPhone 7+. And I never got used to the new layout. Liked the old one better it was easier to use the up next feature. Won’t use it anymore.
  • Update Ruined it for Me

Loved, Loved, Loved this app until they destroyed it with the latest update. Ability to specify the number of episodes to keep for each podcast was critical to me. I learned of the change when my app storage ballooned to 23GB! Fortunately there are other apps with this feature so adios.
