The old app was the gold standard for magazine apps. The functionality was perfect and let me immerse myself in each week’s magazine with no other distractions, so it felt much closer to the print version. Now the menu bar at top is always visible allowing me to click back to “this week.” I want that to go away when I scroll down/read. And it shouldn’t refer me back to “this week”—that’s a section of the magazine. It’s confusing to call the magazine part of the app that as well. Also, I never ever listen to the audio version. So why do I have to see it on each page? I just don’t get why you’d mess with perfection. I’d use the “classic” app, but apparently it doesn’t recognize my economist subscription? So frustrating.
  • Best political, economic magazine there is

I’ve been a subscriber to this wonderful magazine for the past 40 years...and it only gets better with age. Why? For example, because now I can listen each week to the contents of the entire magazine via the audio download that’s wonderfully read so I can jog or walk my little dog while enriching my mind with the best written articles about politics, economics, business and finance. I also appreciate the magazine’s classically liberal, open, progressive, free enterprise viewpoint.
  • Just good journalism

In a world awash with biased opinion pretending to be journalism, it’s reassuring to have the ECONOMIST at hand.
  • Excellent, just missing audio auto-delete

Love the layout and the curation. It’s the best of both worlds—the website and the weekly edition app. I only wish the downloaded audio had a an auto-delete feature, like the weekly edition app does. It should auto-delete after two weeks or a month. As it is, I have to go through all the previous editions to make sure I’ve deleted the downloads.
  • I love the economist app

The thing I love most about this app is that each of the articles is paired with a voice recording of it. It’s a great way to read it an Economist article, which tends to be dense and long. Somehow having somebody read it to me makes it more accessible and enjoyable. I also really love The Economist. The articles give me a far-reaching understanding of what’s happening in the world. Contrast this to the myopic news we get in our daily newspaper.
  • Still the best

Recently re-subscribed after taking a break and trying out some other, cheaper options for a few month. I came back because no one else does a better job of getting me up to speed on world events. The app experience has improved dramatically in the last several months as well.

Great writing. Important topical info. Most importantly the app understands how it is likely to be used and offers great functionality. The audio version of stories makes multitasking possible. Only complaint is the ability to add stories to a playlist would be a nice improvement.
  • Content is great, but the app is missing features

The app is missing a few features that would make it complete for me: 1 - The audio section should allow one to queue up a set of articles to play, not just play through the articles from the beginning to the end. 2 - The iPad app is missing the ability to split screen with another app. The best version of myself takes notes when reading the finance and business sections, and I am unable to do so when reading the economist on the iPad. 3 - The iPad app should have the ability to change the reading pane from one column to two columns, similar to the kindle app.
