Featured by Apple as a "Best New App", Veggie Base is the easiest and fastest way to help you pick the best fruits & veggies. Designed with gorgeous icons and a simple interface, Veggie Base shows you what produce is “in-season” — peak of flavor and usually at their lowest price — and what’s not. With a quick swipe right, you have fast access to the 2016 "Dirty Dozen (Plus)" list, which are the fruits & veggies with the highest pesticide contamination. Did you know the average potato had more pesticides by weight than any other produce? Yeah, time to buy organic. And by swiping left, you have access to the "Clean Fifteen": the food with the lowest pesticide residue and are the safest conventionally grown crops to consume. Save yourself some money by not having to buy organic! With over 90 fruits & veggies, Veggie Base even gives you detailed information on nutrition as well as tips on how to pick and store your produce. How about finding local produce? Yup, Veggie Base now offers a way to find local farmers' markets, including information on what products they offer and hours of operation. Here are the key features of Veggie Base: - Browse and search what's in season (and what's not) - Swipe to see what's on The Dirty Dozen or Clean Fifteen lists - View details on how to pick and store each fruit & veggie - Add fruits & veggies to your favorites for fast future reference or to use as a shopping list - Official USDA nutrition integration - Sort by any vitamin, mineral, and proximate - ALL NEW: Search for nearby Farmers' Markets and see their hours & products offered! - iOS9 support: you can search for fruits & veggies directly in Spotlight, and access the Dirty Dozen or Clean Fifteen through quick actions on the home icon No ads, no in-app purchases! Available only in the App Store

Keeps you up to date with seasonal veggies and fruits ...this app should add how to clean each fruit/ vegetables because I think it would be so helpful

Please add "how to clean" instructions.
  • Healthy app that's helpful

I hope they keep adding more fruits, veggies & herbs. It has a lot listed but still missing a few. It would be great if things were expanded to add seeds and nuts, because why not. (sunflower seeds, almonds, peanuts, etc.) Still a great app regardless.
  • Small Things Desired; Very Nice Overall

Updated review: This app is still five stars and awesome. Love it. Now that I've been using it for 8-9 months, the only thing I feel that is lacking is that there isn't a recommendation for whether or not to buy organic when something is not on one of the two lists. It would be awesome to have that if possible. It may not be as I realize there may not be enough data to support it. The only other comment I would make is to continue expanding the data set to include veggies, fruits, and markets that are not in the app. There are a lot of markets missing (again, I know it is hard to get the data) and there are some foods missing. I have found a few but the most recent I can remember is mustard greens to give an example. Using current location when in the app doesn't work either but that might my phone. Original review: This is just about perfect. Thank you.

Quick tool to let you know what is in season. Doesn't appear to narrow down to region though.
  • Exactly what I was looking for

Great app! Hopefully in the future they add functionality to view more details of the nutritional value of each fruit or veggie. Maybe add a tab with recommended recipes based off what's in season?
